Green Fund

The Green Fund creates opportunities for students to test solutions and actively engage in sustainability initiatives on campus. It is intended to provide students hands-on experience with the development and management of projects in support of transportation, water, energy, food and recycling efforts.

Sustainability and Academic Support

STUDENT TRAVEL AWARDS—$250 EACH
Travel awards will allow students to attend and present at conferences that provide networking, skill-building and job opportunities. Their participation also increases the department’s profile among the profession.

COURSE DEVELOPMENT AWARD—$500 EACH
Innovative course development is essential to advance the integration of sustainability into the University’s curriculum. Course development awards support faculty members’ efforts in developing new courses or revising existing courses to enhance teaching of topics related to sustainability and environmental literacy.

STUDENT RESEARCH AWARD—$250 EACH
Support students pursuing research in the wide realm of sustainability studies. Their participation in real-world, interdisciplinary research contributes to the growing body of knowledge and helps inform the development of best practices to policy implementation.

Energy Fellows—Support student training in energy conservation and management.

PROGRAM NEEDS: GARDEN PLOT MATERIALS—ANY AMOUNT

Seminole Organic Garden—A place on campus for students to learn about and grow their own food.

PROGRAM NEEDS: GARDEN PLOT MATERIALS—$250 PER PLOT

Food Recovery Network—Fighting Waste. Feeding People. FSU’s FRN chapter helps to reduce food waste on campus by recovering and donating it to local community organizations. Since 2014, FRN has recovered and donated more than 17,000 pounds of food.

PROGRAM NEEDS: FOOD PANS—$500 PER SEMESTER

reCycle Bike Program—Sustainable transportation and way of life. The reCycle Bike program aims to reduce the amount of cars driven to and on campus as well as provide low-cost transportation to students.

PROGRAM NEEDS: BICYCLES—$250 EACH

Garnet & Gold Goes Green—FSU’s game day recycling program. G4 volunteers are the friendly-face of game day! Over the past 12 seasons, G4 has collected almost 200 tons of recyclable material from FSU home game tailgates.

PROGRAM NEEDS: LARGE, INDESTRUCTIBLE RECYCLING BINS—$2,000 EACH; STADIUM AND PARKING LOT SIGNAGE—$1,000 PER SEASON

Chuck It for Charity—A partnership between Sustainable Campus and University Housing to collect all the “stuff” that is usually left behind during student move-out. The material is weighed, sorted and redistributed to FSU students in need on campus as well as to Tallahassee-area community agencies in support of their work and the people they help.

PROGRAM NEEDS: VOLUNTEER MEALS—$100 PER DAY; COLLECTION BINS—$50 PER BIN
