Staff Picks: Favorite Alternate Transportation
Tayah: Buses (Seminole Express/StarMetro)
My favorite way to get around Tallahassee is to use the bus! The Seminole Express/StarMetro bus system is very user friendly and easy to get around to all of your favorite spots in Tallahassee. By using the Rider app, you can see the bus times in real time and see all the stops on each route. I love that you can go so many different places including the mall, local parks, and tons of stores.
Emma: Walking (Side walks)
I love being able to take my time walking to my destination. There is so much more to notice when you walk around Tallahassee versus driving past all the quaint stores and restaurants in a rushed blur. The sidewalks are being more frequented and the crosswalks with flashing lights make me feel pretty safe. I’ll walk to a local brunch place any day.
Michelle: Skateboarding
I love skateboarding because it makes me feel strong and capable. As a 27 year old woman, I like to challenge the notion of what a skater is and looks like. Admittedly, I’m not very good at tricks or anything like that, but it is a fun way to get around. Plus it’s a good workout!
Diana: Carpooling with my Roommates
This semester I haven’t been going around Tallahassee very much. I usually only make trips to the grocery store or to parks, so whenever I’m heading out, I always ask my roommates if they want to tag along! We try to work it out to go to the grocery store all together so we’re reducing the amount of cars on the road.
Erin: Kick scooter
Last semester a friend and I got kick scooters to ride around campus. This isn’t the best for long distances, but it’s definitely the most fun way to get to class. It’s also a good alternative to skateboarding for people like me who lack coordination.
