College Computing Services Earns Gold Green Office Certification
The FAMU-FSU College of Engineering's College Computing Services (CCS) has earned a Gold Green Office certification through FSU Sustainable Campus’ Green Office Program, recognizing the department's commitment to sustainable workplace practices and environmental stewardship.
The Green Office Program helps FSU employees identify opportunities to reduce waste, conserve resources, and promote sustainability in alignment with the university's strategic initiatives. Offices are evaluated on actions that support waste minimization, resource stewardship, and education for sustainability.
CCS achieved Gold certification by implementing several innovative and practical sustainability measures. Staff members use reusable dishes and silverware during lunch breaks to reduce single-use waste, while cardboard shipping boxes are collected and reused by the Dean's Office whenever possible. Looking toward the future, the department's Green Office Liaison is developing an app designed to eliminate the need for paper receipts when processing electronics, further reducing paper consumption across the college.
These efforts demonstrate how small, intentional changes can create a more sustainable workplace while supporting Florida State University's goal of building a campus-wide culture of environmental responsibility. Through its Gold certification, the College Computing Services serves as a model for how offices can integrate sustainability into everyday operations and make a lasting impact.
