Sustainable Procurement
FSU’s Procurement Services are always striving to make it as simple as possible for various departments to make the most sustainable purchasing choices. This is done through various education and outreach initiatives and support of the University’s Strategic Plan to Enhance Campus Commitment to Sustainability. Much of our greenhouse gas emissions (about 40%) occur before product even reaches the University, so many efforts focus on research to find the most sustainable and financially feasible options for and working hand-in-hand with the departments looking to make purchases. These practices can have an impact not only on the environment, but help improve the quality of life for the entire FSU community. FSU’s Procurement Services use various education and outreach initiatives to develop a thorough University purchasing policy, supplemented by a Green Purchasing Guide. FSU also uses Life Cycle Cost Analysis (LCCA) to ensure the selection of the most cost and energy-efficient energy and water-using products.
