As a member of AASHE (The Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education), FSU submits a report detailing its long-term sustainability goals. These STARS (Sustainability, Tracking, Assessment and Rating System) reports allow universities to receive recognition for their work in becoming a more sustainable institution.
FSU was first recognized for its efforts in 2011, when it received a Silver rating, which was later reaffirmed in 2015. 2018 was the first time FSU was ranked a Gold university on its STARS report. AASHE awards points towards ratings across several categories of university function, such as:
- Academics
- Operations
- Engagement
- Planning and Administration
- Innovation and Leadership
During the last scoring cycle, only 140 universities achieved Gold ratings, placing FSU among a competitive group of institutions growing their sustainability efforts.
