Sustainable Campus Shares: 5 Job Boards for Sustainability Professionals!
The job search can be a hassle, and sometimes jobs in a specific field can be hard to find. This is exactly what job boards are for! Beneficial for both employers and job seekers, job boards are a place where companies can post their open positions within a field and prospective employees can post their information and resume to attract an employer’s attention. Often, different job boards have different specialties, but there are several job boards across the web focused specifically on careers in sustainability. In an effort to make resources as easily accessible as possible, Sustainable Campus has compiled a short list of five sustainability job boards that may be helpful to those looking to hire or be hired!
The Black Sustainability Network
Black Sustainability is the largest global network of Black and African sustainability organizations, enthusiasts, and professionals. With a focus on environmental justice and the wisdom and place of culture in the sustainability movement, this job board currently hosts over 2,000 members. Each year, the Black Sustainability Network hosts the Black Sustainability Summit for its members to bring its online space in-person and provide an environment to share expertise, ideas, and collaborate on environmental challenges and sustainable development worldwide. With so many members, the network is constantly alight with new job postings, funding opportunities, and in-person events around the world.
Queer Outdoor and Environmental Job Board
Created as a collaborative effort between Pattie Gonia and Red Fong, two well-established queer environmentalists, the Queer Outdoor and Environmental Job Board is meant to be a safe space for LGBTQ+ individuals to share their information and ideas. The board, which is sponsored by The North Face, hosts almost 2,500 individuals and has posted over 1,500 jobs since its launch in June 2021. The website also offers links to other diversity and sustainability-focused job boards, as well as a comprehensive list of all organizations that have posted jobs so that candidates can do further research and make sure they’re applying to companies that would be the right fit for them.
Sustainable Development Goal Careers
Centered around providing a common language for employers and job-seekers, Sustainable Development Goal Careers utilizes the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to pair employees and organizations. These SDGs cover all areas of sustainable development across economic, social, and environmental efforts. As such, the jobs posted reflect the same variety. The site also provides a multitude of resources, including access to career coaches that specialize in helping individuals transition into careers that align with their goals and values. Not familiar with the SDGs? No problem! The Sustainable Development Goal Careers board also provides resources to help educate prospective employees on sustainability, including an “SDG-explorer” guide that walks you through all seventeen goals and their associated action targets.
Curated by Kristy Drutman, AKA “Brown Girl Green,” the Green Jobs Board focuses on sustainability jobs with a proven commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. The job board aims to host an accessible and welcoming space for those who may have experienced an opportunity gap in the sustainability field, such as BIPOC, LGBTQ+, people with disabilities, and more. New opportunities on the job board can be received via newsletter or by following the job board’s social media profiles on LinkedIn, Instagram, and TikTok. Currently, the site focuses on North American positions with occasional international positions shared via the newsletter.
Described as the “LinkedIn for climate,” ClimateBase is one of the largest climate-focused hiring platforms with over 200,000 monthly users, including both employers and applicants. Looking to close the hiring gap in climate-centric organizations, ClimateBase aims to be the go-to resource for climate careers. Outside of its weekly newsletter, ClimateBase also offers a fellowship of its own as of 2022. This fellowship offers several specialized tracks including Climate Communications, Scientists and Researchers, Corporate Sustainability, and more. Applicants can search for jobs by sector (such as food and agriculture, transportation, energy, and others) or by location, including remote positions and positions in various international locations around the world.
