This week, we'll be hearing from Morgan Dobbins, who previously worked as our Social Media Coordinator and now works for the AmeriCorps in Hawaii!

Understanding the news these days can be overwhelming, especially when it comes to the environment. We are constantly bombarded with stories centered around crisis and disaster and fear, so much so that the positive work being done is often buried. Even when it isn’t buried, it can be difficult to understand, filled with technical jargon, or just unclear on why it should matter to us. The purpose of Sustainable Campus’s “Climate Corner” is to help break down important sustainability news into something short, easy to read, and engaging!

Six College of Law Departments Earn Gold, Garnet, and Green Office Ratings

Six departments in the College of Law have earned Sustainable Campus Green Office certifications during the summer semester. In May 2022, College of Law Associate Dean for Administration Catherine Miller challenged all units within the college to become more sustainable.

In Summer 2022, Vi worked with Citizens for a Sustainable Future (C4SF) to hold a listening session on environmental justice in Tallahassee. Vi joined the Fellows program to learn more about community organizing and environmental justice issues.

Through the support of an FSU Green Fund Project Grant, the Chemistry & Biochemistry Department has enacted the first glove-recycling program at FSU. In laboratory settings, single use plastics are a necessity for safety and sterility. However, their use results in approximately 5.5 million tons of plastic lab waste annually (Urbina et al., 2015).
