Hydration Station

Last summer, we posted a photo of a hydration station located at the FSU College of Law on our FSU Sustainable Campus Facebook page. It would have just been a normal day, a normal Facebook post, but we got a comment that sent us on a journey to FSU’s law school where a certain Torts professor teaches.

Julio

As part of our Campus Sustainability month, we want to introduce you to the student leaders who are leaving their mark on the sustainable future of Florida State. Meet Julio, the current reCycle Bike Program Coordinator. This senior majoring in English Editing, Writing & Media has been using a bike throughout his time at FSU. He first found out about the program during his freshman year, when his reCycle Bike really came in handy.

FRN

As part of Campus Sustainability Month, we will be highlighting our sustainable student leaders. This week’s sustainable student is Reem Zaitoon. Reem is an international affairs and anthropology major who serves as the Program Coordinator for Food Recovery Network.

Reem has been involved with FRN for two semesters. She got joined because the previous Food Recovery Network Program Coordinator was a good friend. As she participated with FRN and learned more about the crippling food waste issues affecting our community, she became more passionate and involved with the program.

Fashion & Sustainability

Florida State University art student and graphic designer for Sustainable Campus, Naira Diptee, recently created a zine on the topic of fashion and sustainability. Repurposing found fashion magazines into her work, she subverts the power of advertising in the fashion industry, calling the reader’s attention to the concepts of “fast-fashion” and the capitalistic ideology that supports it. Her use of these found objects also allows her work to have an aesthetic appeal to give those who may not normally choose to learn about sustainability a reason to pick up the zine.
